Things I did yesterday:

  1. Rehearse for 2 hours on memorial service music for this afternoon
  2. Attend an almost-three-hour dress rehearsal wearing high heels, oops.
  3. Sing a concert at the Tennessee Theater for the first time (of many, I hope!) (and my feet hurt sooooo bad afterwards)
  4. Perform Messiah and Bach's Sleepers Wake! for the first time (of many, I hope)
  5. Almost finish writing out a flute part for "He Shall Feed His Flock" for the memorial service today--just a few measures left, then I have to check and make sure I have accounted for all the measures in the piece.
  6. Oh, and introduce my folks to my beau's mom.  That made me more nervous than anything else, but it wasn't a big deal in the end.  They got along great.  Exciting!!!  :)

There is a guy singing in KCS that has sung Messiah so many times, he has his chorus part completely memorized.  One of the soloists last night performed a HUGE solo off-book, too.  She was absolutely STUNNING.  Wow.  High A's all over the place.

On my birthday, the folks I work with gave me a $70 online Visa gift card. Very nice of them. I've spent most of it, and I had $23.38 left -- until the card company took off a $5.95 monthly service fee! Bastards...

So now, I want to spend it before I loose any more money. But what can I buy online that costs as close as possible (without going over) to $17.43? I tried to buy this t-shirt, but with postage it comes to $18.94.  I could always buy something on Amazon, but I really don't want to pay $5 postage on a $12 item.

So, does anyone know of an on-line retailer that lets you split your payment between two cards, so I could buy something that cost $20 or so, and pay $17.43 on the gift card and pay the balance on another card?  Or does anyone have a suggestion for a $17 item (including postage)?

I am looking for a new place to live...my landlords have finally sold the house and the new owners want to move an elderly parent into my place, so I have until the end of the year (is that really only six weeks away?) to find another place to rent. I started packing up the things I could this week, and was amused to find that my book collection took all 10 boxes I had brought home. The store is saving me more boxes, plus one of my co-workers moved recently and he said he'd bring me boxes as well, so I'm covered there. Where do I want to move? Well, if my job were permanent, I'd definitely stay in town, but I'm not sure they'll need me as much after January, so this would kind of be a good breaking point to start a new job in a new city...I just need to hear from someone!

I also need to find someone to cook for so that these yummy recipes don't become my leftovers for a week. My toasted pasta with sausage, mushrooms, and red peppers came out GREAT tonight, though.

Mom and Dad flew to Atlanta this weekend--I can't wait to see their pictures of baby Hudson and family when they get back! Bradley will be home next weekend, Bec will be here in 10 days, and the rest will trickle in as they can.

If it wasn't so far as to require an overnight stay, I would so be in St. Louis this weekend to see Kristy Cates in "Unbeatable". Maybe next weekend.

From [info]metallic_sweet:
Leave me a comment saying "Resistance is Futile."
I'll respond by asking you five questions so I can satisfy my curiosity
Update your journal with the answers to the questions
Include this explanation in the post and offer to ask other people questions

Questions asked by metallic_sweet:

1) When you make it big with your novel, what will be the first thing you do with the money you make? :3
...I think it's going to depend on where I am in life at that point. Despite dreaming big, I'm a pretty practical person in a lot of ways (for better or for worse)...I'd first think of using it for school, probably, either med school or maybe a MFA program in fiction, thinking along those kinds of expenses. After that, I'd think about traveling, like to Europe or Russia...actually, scratch that, I think I know exactly what I'd want to do with the money first, practical matters aside, but it's something really embarrassing, and it'd be assuming I hadn't done it already by that time :| I'll give you some hints though. It would have to do with traveling, and the "channeling HRE" messages I sent you recently.

2) Quick! There's a monster with big teeth chasing you. What do you do?
...run away? Like, really fast? :O

3) Would you let me help write the screenplay for a movie adaption of your novel?
If you'd like to :3

4) What are your two favourite flavours of ice cream to eat together?
...I usually like to eat flavours by themselves, actually, savoring the taste individually. Just randomly off the top of my head though...right now I'm thinking of vanilla and green tea ice cream together.

5) If I cooked you chicken soup, would you want the full chicken (sans feathers, etc. inedible stuff) in it?
Hmm. I'd leave that judgment up to you I think, which did you think was the best way to cook it. If it tastes good (and isn't bad for me, naturally), I'm not actually that picky about what goes in I think.

So today was a crap day. Go figure it would be Friday the 13th.

On my way to work this morning I was in a fender bender that could have been much worse than it was. I was cut off by a gas/propane type truck and then sandwiched between him and a good sized box truck. There was hardly any room and at the time I wasn't concerned with the lack of space, but once at work realized that I probably could have been squished. Luckily there was hardly any damage, which was only done to my car. The gas truck continued to drive on its way, not realizing anything had happened, while I ended up going to my left and hit the box truck since I had no other way to go (the gas truck kept merging, pushing me into the next lane where the box truck was). My driver's side mirror was broken and hung hitting my door when I drove.

After making a few phone calls and exchanging the proper information, I made my way to work where it started to hit me what had happened. As I called my manager to see about leaving work early to take my car to get the mirror fixed I felt the tears coming and completely bawled when she answered. I then pretty much played phone tag with my parents to let them know how I was doing and what was going on.

But I was so scared. Not while the accident was happening, but after. I'm trying not to think about what could have happened, but I keep picturing my car getting smashed from both sides and it's like I feel it in my core. It's awful, and I'm hoping that when I manage to get to sleep I don't have any nightmares and can just sleep and wake tomorrow feeling a little or a lot better.

And I'm torn. I don't want to just sit around and wallow, but I feel awkward in moving on as though nothing happened. It's like I don't know how to feel about today. I want to be able to get over it, and yet I know that for a while I'm going to be scared to death when I'm out driving my car and have to merge lanes. I know the feelings will pass, it's just that now that I'm dealing with them, I don't know what to do.

*sigh*
It was not how I planned my day.

Emil had the fastest reflexes among them, could load and reload their standard issue rifle quickest, with an average of 12 rounds per minute, strong accuracy at 1,400 meters. Back home, Emil had been the athlete. Consequentially, they had all decided that Emil was going to have primary control in this body...well, rather a lot while they were on duty on the front--and of course it wasn't fair, but this war wasn't fair either, and if Emil had any sense of self-preservation, Kaiser remarked, he wouldn't complain. Emil didn't complain. He also had first pick of recreational activities when their unit was rotated out and allowed leave away from the front. His pick of recreational activities seemed to involve girls, quite often... no one said anything, because Emil was perfectly within his rights, considering what they were relying on him for.

Presently, the trenches were quiet. Emil was napping, dreaming of home, dreaming of their mother and their sisters and the chickens back at home in the country...Konrad was composing poetry, dirty limeracks about soldiers on leave...and Kaiser was sitting most alert in their body, feeling the damp of the mud soaked into their uniform. He shivered, and wiped at their nose.

How's Sofia doing? he asked the others, idly.

Konrad gave a mental shrug. She still hasn't come out since we got back to the front. Don't blame her. It's not right, a girl being forced out here like this. Not, he added after a moment's deliberation, that I'd say it was any fairer for us.
